We've watched Ron Dayne follow the routine hundreds of times.
A few yards behind the quarterback, he stands motionless, bent
forward at the waist, one hand on each thigh. He moves ahead with a
quickness and accepts the handoff. His eyes dart back and forth,
searching for his pursuers. . . .
First come the 300-pound defensive linemen hoping to stop him
before he gets started. Next up, swift but strong linebackers, eager
to challenge his manhood. Finally, the unfortunate defensive backs
who wonder why the responsibility of blocking the path of this
252-pound tailback has been passed along to them, like some sort of
family curse.
