Article: Prices rise higher in Milwaukee area than elsewhere during first half of year

Prices in the Milwaukee area rose 1.1% in the first half of the year, about 10% more than in the average U.S. city during the same period, according to data compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In the Milwaukee area, the cost of food, beverages, housing, energy and medical care rose more than in the average city, while apparel and education costs fell more than elsewhere. In the average city, prices increased 1% over the period.

Leading the increase in the Milwaukee area was a 5% rise in the cost of natural gas service vs. a 0.7% decrease nationally and a 0.4% decrease in the average Midwestern city.
