Adeline R. Hansen of Lake Geneva, Jean Paul of Milwaukee and
Phyllis Merten of Milwaukee sent recipes for Pat of Madison who
wanted a recipe for a black bottom pie made with chocolate chips
rather than baking chocolate.
Hansen sent a recipe for a pie made in a pastry shell with a
meringue top, Paul sent a black bottom cake recipe and Merten a black
bottom banana-cream pie that uses chocolate chunks. She describes
this pie as "scrumptious."

1 cup sugar (divided)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 cups milk, scalded
4 beaten egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 package (6 ounces or 1 cup) semisweet chocolate chips
