Dairy farmers go to great lengths to ensure the comfort of their
herds since, after all, cows are their bread and butter.
The latest in bovine pampering: water beds.
Now cows can lie or stand in floating comfort in their stalls as
their four stomachs digest alfalfa and hay.
"We don't want her to be on a surfboard," said Dean Throndsen, who
was demonstrating the firmness of the water beds Wednesday at the
World Dairy Expo. "We don't want her making milkshakes, so that's why
we want her to be solid when she's standing."
Throndsen, a sales representative for Alanta Animal Water Beds,
extolled the virtues of his product as Dairy Expo visitors jumped up
