Dan Schramm thinks he has just as much right to the use of
www.phonebell.com as Ameritech Corp.
The Milwaukee businessman registered the domain name for a Web
site on telecommunications services he was developing for consumers.
But in May, Ameritech filed a lawsuit in Federal Court in
Milwaukee contending that Schramm and his company, Quaterra
Communications Corp., did not have the rights to Bell -- even if
Schramm was using www.phonebell.com.
Ameritech wants Quaterra to quit using the name. A lawyer for the
company said in court documents that Ameritech is especially
concerned that Quaterra wants to leverage the Bell brand and become a
phone company.
Ameritech officials declined to comment ...
