Article: Whistling Straits whistling in dark Officials left waiting for word on site selection for 2005 U.S. Open

The U.S. Golf Association has tabled site selection for the 2005 U.S. Open until at least January, leaving officials at Whistling Straits in the dark.

Whistling Straits, the 1-year-old golf course in Haven designed by Pete Dye and built by the Kohler Co., was believed to be on the short list of courses being considered to play host to the 2005 Open.

However, the USGA's championship committee elected not to recommend a site to the executive committee at a meeting which concluded Sunday in Owings Mill, Md.

"At this point, they weren't comfortable making a selection," a USGA spokesman said.
