Article: Health department relocation considered as part of library expansion project

The Village Board wrestled this week with relocating the village health department as part of a proposed $4.4 million library expansion.

The board is studying four proposals for adding space to the library. The preferred plan calls for expanding both the upper and lower levels of the existing building northeast of N. Murray Ave. and E. Shorewood Blvd.

In this plan, the library collection would be on the upper or ground level. The lower level would have space for public meetings and the health department.

Space in the lower level also could be made available to groups such as the Shorewood Historical Society, the Shorewood Men's Club and the Shorewood Women's Club.
