Anyone searching for yet another indication University of Wisconsin senior Ron Dayne is on the verge of becoming only the second player in school history to win the Heisman Trophy had to be encouraged by the latest honor bestowed upon the NCAA's Division I-A all-time leading rusher.

Less than two weeks before the 1999 Heisman Trophy is to be awarded Dec. 11, Dayne was named the Walter Camp Player of the Year on Monday.

Named last week to the Walter Camp All-American team for the second consecutive season, Dayne was an overwhelming choice for the individual honor in voting by Division I-A coaches and sports information directors.
