It's a simple question: When it's time each night for new parents
to get some much-needed shut-eye, is it OK to bring baby into the
bed?
Don't expect a simple answer. The family bed is, in fact, a hotbed
of discussion among health and mental-health experts, government
officials and parents.
On one side of the debate are pediatricians and child
psychologists who argue that co-sleeping, as the practice is called,
is a bad idea, fostering a range of emotional problems and physical
risks for children. The most recent and serious criticism of the
family bed came in late September when the federal Consumer Product
Safety Commission issued a warning to parents not to allow children
