Ron Dayne's competition for the Heisman Trophy has been assembled.
The four players standing between the University of Wisconsin
senior tailback and the Heisman Trophy are quarterbacks: Georgia Tech
senior Joe Hamilton; Purdue junior Drew Brees; Marshall senior Chad
Pennington; and Virginia Tech redshirt freshman Michael Vick.
All five finalists were announced Monday by the Downtown Athletic
Club, which will present the award Saturday night in New York. The
finalists were invited based on returns from a majority of the 921
Heisman voters.
Dayne, named the college player of the year by The Sporting News
on Monday, finished No. 2 nationally in rushing with 1,834 yards and
19 touchdowns ...
