As much as any Michigan State University fan hates to say it, the University of Michigan would not have been dismissed as easily as the Spartans were this season.

Imagine it. A Michigan team with as talented a pair of receivers as Gari Scott and Plaxico Burress and an experienced quarterback like Bill Burke opening the season unranked.

A Spartans squad with a pair of stars such as defensive end Robaire Smith and Julian Peterson going unnoticed by the pollsters? A team with a solid secondary and experience kicking game not getting its due in the polls?

Michigan State wasn't top five material or even top ten, for that matter, to start the season. But coming from the Big Ten ...
