Quarterback Joel Beard threw two touchdown passes and ran for a
third Saturday as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville beat UW-La
Crosse, 27-14, in Platteville and snapped a 24-game losing streak in
the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Platteville (2-3 overall, 1-2 conference) had to fight back from a
14-0 first-quarter deficit against La Crosse (2-3, 2-1) to give first-
year coach Mike Emendorfer his first conference victory.
Joe Rivard gave La Crosse a first-quarter lead with two touchdown
runs. But Beard hit Troy Gagner with a 31-yard touchdown pass, and
Chad Nate ran for a score in the second quarter.
