Brown Deer and Milwaukee enjoyed the biggest declines in overall
property taxes among the 30 taxing jurisdictions in Milwaukee County
this year, the Journal Sentinel's annual comparison of equalized
property tax rates shows.
The reductions in the two communities were fueled by higher-than-
usual infusions of state school aid, officials said.
Brown Deer's tax ranking declined from fourth-highest to 15th-
highest in the county.
Milwaukee had the second-largest decline, from 17th-highest to
24th.
As recently as 1994, Milwaukee was ranked sixth.
Overall, actual property tax rates and property tax bills rose in
20 of the 30 jurisdictions in the county. There were declines in ...
