There were, I would have said yesterday, only four books currently
being published about the New Yorker, but today I heard about a
fifth, a memoir by the son of former New Yorker columnist Janet
Flanner's lover. There may be more.
This year is the New Yorker's 75th anniversary, and surely the
nation's best and most durable literary magazine deserves two
anthologies, two memoirs and a comprehensive history, ...
