District attorney testifies at hearing for youth he charged with hate crime

Waukesha -- In the unusual position of sitting on the witness stand, District Attorney Paul Bucher Tuesday defended his decision to charge a teenager with a hate crime and called the youth a liar.

Bucher found himself on the receiving end of an aggressive courtroom examination when Assistant State Public Defender Elizabeth Weathers called him to testify about a telephone conversation he recorded when the teenager called the district attorney and began spilling his guts.
