Researchers hope results ease fear that PCBs, DDT spurred rise in disease

The largest study ever done on the topic finds no link between breast cancer risk and exposure to certain environmental toxins.

Fear has been widespread that residue of the banned industrial chemicals PCBs and the pesticide DDT could be contributing to the steady rise of breast cancer cases in recent decades. The chemicals act weakly like estrogen, which is known to be related to breast cancer risk. Medical studies have been inconclusive, though most have found no connection.
