In New Glarus? Don't miss the Swiss

New Glarus -- When in Rome, you know. Passing through Green County
the other day, I pulled into New Glarus for a sandwich of the finest
local Swiss cheese.
I got fed all right, and got religion, too. It turned out that the
big church that towers -- literally -- over New Glarus from its
hillside throne in the center of town is having a birthday, and it's
a big one.
The church, of course, is as Swiss as the local cheese, because as
much as almost any community in Wisconsin, New Glarus has kept alive
the culture of its earliest immigrant settlers.
