Schreiber to buy Beatrice processed cheese plants

Move lets Waukesha-based firm focus on natural cheese business

Schreiber Foods Inc. -- whose processed American cheese covers more burgers than any other cheese in the world -- is getting bigger.

Green Bay-based Schreiber has agreed to buy processed cheese plants in Waukesha and Monroe from Beatrice Cheese, a division of food industry giant ConAgra Inc., spokesmen for both companies said Tuesday. The Waukesha plant has 225 employees, while the Monroe plant employs 115.
