Area's first goat dairy farm serves specialty cheese producer

Town of Cedarburg -- Milking goats is a lot like milking cows, only the goats are smaller and more friendly, said Kim Rutila, manager of the only dairy goat herd in Ozaukee and Washington counties.

Rutila calls "her girls," all 140 of them, from a modern open barn into the milking parlor twice each day, at 4 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Another 96 female goats, a year or less old, bide their time in the basement of a century-old barn at the family's Cedar Glen Farm. The farm, at 12117 Cedar Creek Road, is hidden from view at the end of a long gravel ...
