Boston puts Nixon on DL

Boston's decimated outfield took another blow Tuesday when rightfielder Trot Nixon went on the 15-day disabled list with an injured right hamstring. Nixon, batting .293, had not played since Friday night.

Jeff Frye, normally the Red Sox second baseman, started in right Tuesday night against Baltimore. Morgan Burkhart, called up from Class AAA Pawtucket to take Nixon's roster spot, was the designated hitter.

Boston leftfielder Troy O'Leary has been on the DL since June 19, and Darren Lewis is sidelined with tightness in his left hamstring. Centerfielder Carl Everett, who had a root-canal procedure Tuesday, was replaced ...
