With Manager Ray Miller again short of healthy relievers, the
Baltimore Orioles placed Arthur Rhodes on the 15-day disabled list
today and recalled Joel Bennett from Class AAA Rochester.
Rhodes hasn't pitched since July 4 because of a sore elbow,
and with his return at least a few days away, Miller welcomed
Bennett, a soft-throwing, 28-year-old right-hander who was 10-0 at
Rochester.
Despite leading the International League in victories and
starting the Class AAA All-Star Game, Bennett has not been viewed as
a major league prospect because of his lack of velocity. But Miller
said this opportunity was a chance to prove the scouts wrong.
