Brewers choking in the clutch

Team worst in majors with runners in scoring position

When Jeromy Burnitz's game-winning double bounced over the fence in the ninth inning Sunday afternoon against Houston, the Milwaukee Brewers figured their offensive woes might be ending.

They were wrong.

In the four games since Burnitz's hit, the Brewers are 0 for 22 with runners in scoring position. In the seven games (five losses) on the current homestand, they are 2 for 38 (.053).

"It's been atrocious," manager Davey Lopes said. "You know it's bad when you watch it, but then when you look at the numbers.
