Back in 1983, before the Mighty Mighty Bosstones even existed,
Bim Skala Bim was playing punk-ska in Boston. Because they drew more
directly from England's Specials and because lead singer Dan Vitale
has a smoother, sweeter voice than the Bosstones' Dicky Barrett, BSB
has emphasized rootsy ska more than American punk, slippery
seduction more than knock-you-over assault. Nonetheless, BSB has
always had broad, eclectic tastes, a fact emphasized on their eighth
album, "The One That Got Away," a collection of unreleased tracks
and rarities.
