Checks and balances keep air conditioner efficient

Q: We have a humidity problem in our home during the hot humid months of summer. It's not so extensive that we have mold and mildew, but when the air conditioner is on, we can't get it below 65. We have used a dehumidifier and can get it to about 57, which feels comfortable. However, it creates so much heat that it defeats the purpose of the air. Can you tell us what we should do?
