Cable industry wants laws reformed

Executives want change in regulations governing deals with broadcasters

New Orleans -- Still stinging from last week's highly publicized spat between ABC and Time Warner, cable executives who gathered for their annual convention said Monday that the laws governing their transmission deals with broadcasters need to be re-examined.

"The law should never have permitted this," Time Warner chief Gerald Levin said of the showdown that left 3.5 million of his customers without a local ABC signal for a day and a half.
