Third Wave begins exploring options

Madison-based firm looks into other possibilities after merger falls through

Now that its stock deal with PE Biosystems, once worth more than $300 million, has fallen through, Madison-based Third Wave Technologies Inc. will be exploring "other financial possibilities," Lance Fors, Third Wave's president and chief executive officer, said Friday.

Whether that includes an initial public offering isn't clear, Fors said.

Third Wave and PE Biosystems -- a division of Connecticut-based PE Corp. -- on Thursday called off the merger they announced in January.
