Zebra mussels seen in Big Cedar Lake

Investigators are checking whether pest has invaded Milwaukee River watershed

Town of West Bend -- State and local officials are investigating whether zebra mussels have entered Big Cedar Lake and the Milwaukee River watershed after a swimmer's chance finding of several of the destructive mollusks.

Big Cedar Lake would be the first water body in the Milwaukee River's drainage basin and the first in Washington County with a zebra mussel infestation if the mussels' presence is confirmed.
