Brophy takes oath as district attorney

Madison -- Dane County Assistant District Attorney Brian Brophy was appointed district attorney Wednesday by Gov. Tommy G. Thompson.

Brophy fills the vacancy created when Thompson appointed Diane Nicks, who had been district attorney for about two years, to be a Dane County circuit judge.

Thompson said he selected Brophy, the only Republican contender for the appointment, because of his experience and expertise. Nicks
