Pewaukee ringer pushes for home to practice peals across land

In his mind's ear, Roland Perschon hears cascades of golden sound pouring in stately rhythm across the fields and woods of Waukesha County.

For now, however, the bells of Pewaukee peal only in his imagination.

What he does actually hear once each month are the bells of Mitchell Tower on the University of Chicago campus, one of only 40 such towers in North America where bells are hung for "change ringing."

To indulge their musical passion, Perschon and other members of the Change Ringers' Guild of Wisconsin drive 90 miles to the Mitchell Tower ringers ...
