Watts campaigns to save Park East spur

Shop owner seeks recall of mayor

Fresh from his losing mayoral race, George Watts is starting another campaign -- this time to save the Park East Freeway spur from demolition.

Just three months after Mayor John O. Norquist defeated him, Watts is calling on the mayor to resign or face a recall election over the planned removal of the freeway from N. 4th St. or N. 6th St. to N. Jefferson St. He's also threatening a lawsuit and vowing to raise $125,000 for that litigation and a "Save Our Spur" advertising campaign.

Tearing down the freeway would be "exceedingly unpopular and destructive ...
