DNR confirms zebra mussels live in Big Cedar Lake

Body of water is the first in Milwaukee River watershed confirmed to have the pest

Town of West Bend -- All of the dozen hard-shelled mollusks pulled from Big Cedar Lake last week by volunteer divers are zebra mussels, a state biologist said Tuesday.

Two of the striped mussels likely were born in the lake this year while the others are 3 years old or older, said Heidi Bunk, a lakes biologist with the state Department of Natural Resources.
