Pearl Jam's year more than eventful

It's been nearly five years since grunge ruled the rock charts, but one of the genre's originators, Pearl Jam, is having one of its most eventful years.

"It's been a fairly crazy year for us," Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard said by phone

Along the way, tragedy struck. While Pearl Jam was playing June 30 at a rock festival 30 miles outside Copenhagen, Denmark, nine fans were trampled to death at a crowded, muddy outdoor venue.

After that, the group considered halting the tour. But the members decided to continue.
