Kohl's earnings rise 44%

Retailer planning to open California stores in 2003

Kohl's Corp. reported a 44% increase in earnings for fiscal 2000 Tuesday and said it would enter the Los Angeles market in 2003, confirming the Menomonee Falls chain's status as a national retailer.

The company reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $178.5 million, or 52 cents per diluted share, on sales of $2.2 billion, up from $120.6 million, or 36 cents per share, on sales of $1.6 billion
