Limits considered on car cell phones

Legislators, industry react to worries about distracted motorists

Madison -- For Don Wene, the commonplace sight of a driver chattering on a cell phone is a cutting reminder of how he lost his son.

Wene's 41-year-old son, Vern, was killed in a crash in Marinette County in May when his car was struck by a vehicle whose 17-year-old driver was talking on the phone.

"Other people's lives are in jeopardy because of people's disregard for the safety of others," said Wene, who wants to see Wisconsin outlaw cell phone use by drivers.
