With the rest of his teammates content to sample Vancouver's
Halloween activities, Washington Capitals goaltender Olaf Kolzig
boarded a private jet late this afternoon, bound for the small area
of southwest Washington state called Tri-Cities. The plane belonged
to Ron Toigo, who owns the Tri-Cities Americans, Kolzig's junior
hockey team. But the evening that followed belonged to Kolzig, who
had his No. 33 retired at Tri-Cities Coliseum.
"They wanted to start some tradition there, and so I'm really
honored they wanted to retire my jersey," said Kolzig, who played
for the Americans from 1988 to '90. "I wasn't the most successful
