Merger-mania wanes among Wisconsin companies

Merger and acquisition activity involving Wisconsin companies fell sharply last year, according to an annual report compiled by Anderson/ Roethle Inc.

In 2000, Wisconsin companies engaged in 156 merger and acquisition transactions involving $10.9 billion in asset and revenue transfers. In 1999, there were 259 such deals involving $65.9 billion.

Of the deals in 2000, 41 involved two Wisconsin companies, 73 involved Wisconsin companies buying a concern based elsewhere and 42 involved a Wisconsin company being sold to an outsider.
