Winter weather hurts northern deer herd

But experts say conditions aren't likely to end overpopulation

For the first time in three years, the booming whitetail deer herd in northern Wisconsin is feeling some stress because of winter's deep snow and subzero cold, wildlife experts said Wednesday.

There is evidence that some fawns have died, but unless the weather turns real nasty in coming days and weeks, an already overpopulated herd should, for the most part, survive winter just fine, they said.
