Plant conversion would pay off for Port

Mayor sees millions in extra revenue, a big loss if another site's chosen

Port Washington -- A reconfigured Wisconsin Electric Power Co. generating plant could give the city millions of dollars in extra revenue, according to an analysis of the project that Mayor Mark Gottlieb prepared.

Wisconsin Energy Corp., the parent company of Wisconsin Electric, has said that it wants to convert its plant here from coal-burning to natural gas-fired. The change would greatly increase the amount of energy the plant could generate.
