Economy having severe effect on Rockwell

Rockwell International Corp. said an economic downturn as severe as any recession in 20 years led the company to trim 1,000 jobs, close plants and take a $50 million charge.

"People keep talking about we don't have a recession going on," said Don Davis, chairman and chief executive officer of the Milwaukee corporation. "As measured by GDP, maybe that is true. But I'll tell you one thing: It does not apply to the manufacturing sector of this economy."

Strattec workers hit the picket lines

About 480 workers at Strattec Security Corp. in Glendale went on strike Thursday.
