Write about what you know, people say. So it's not that surprising, not always that interesting and predictably narcissistic, that actors would make a film about actors.

"The Anniversary Party" -- the writing and directing debut by actors Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alan Cumming, who also co-star -- is a Hollywood colony soap opera with a newfangled style and old- fashioned structure.

Leigh played in "Cabaret" on Broadway opposite Cumming's emcee, and made this film fresh off "The King Is Alive," a stripped-down Dogma 95 film by Danish director Kristian Levring. Like some ...
