Fly fishing can be effective on muskies

Pewaukee -- A swirl on the surface of the water prompted Pat Ehlers to make a long cast and gently drop a fly in that general vicinity of the Pewaukee Lake shoreline shallows.

In the next instant, we both saw a long, lean and mean-looking fish turn and torpedo after the fly before inhaling it.

At the bow end of the boat, Ehlers lifted the rod tip to set the hook and the battle was on. As Ehlers stripped in line, we both thought he was fighting a musky. After all, that's what we were after.

But when Ehlers finally got things under control enough to bring the feisty fish to boat side, ...
