Article: District Court Gets More Dignified Quarters; New Building Offers More Space, Security

After more than a year of construction, Anne Arundel County's spacious new District Court building will be dedicated Monday and will open for business the next week.

The $11 million Annapolis courthouse was built to replace a suite of cramped and often chaotic courtrooms in an aging state office building.

Though some have complained that the sprawling modern design clashes with its small-town surroundings, court officials believe the new building will bring a more dignified atmosphere to District Court, which offers many county residents their only exposure to the judicial system.
