Some pools may close in favor of water parks

Parks officials seek $33.5 million for new, remodeled recreation spots

Milwaukee County officials want to shut down as many as eight under-utilized swimming pools to save money, but long-term plans to replace them with other kinds of facilities and renovate other pools would cost about $33.5 million.

The plan calls for large new water parks, at Noyes Park on Milwaukee's northwest side and Maitland Park on Milwaukee's far south side, at a cost of $9.7 million each, and medium-sized water parks at Washington and Hoyt parks, at a cost of $4.75 million each.
