Washington -- Researchers have solved an old medical mystery by
demonstrating why dangerously high doses of aspirin can lower blood
sugar and make cells more sensitive to insulin.
The laboratory mouse study eventually could lead to new drugs for
Type 2 diabetes, they said.
"This study helps us understand what causes insulin insensitivity
due to obesity and a high-fat diet," said Steven E. Shoelson, a
researcher at the Joslin Diabetes Center and the Harvard Medical
School in Boston. He is the lead author of the study, reported today
in the journal Science.
