Leader says Macedonian rebels will give up weapons

Still, ethnic Albanians could defeat government forces, commander warns

Dobroste, Macedonia -- Talking tough despite the imminent arrival of NATO troops, an ethnic Albanian rebel commander said Thursday that his men would surrender their weapons but still could defeat government forces if Macedonia doesn't keep its promises.

"We want to resolve the problem through peaceful means," said the commander, who goes by the name of Clirimi and heads the rebels' military police in the ethnic Albanian majority region near Tetovo, the second-largest Macedonian city.
