Northern Rail loses contract

Virginia commuter rail line cancels deal after company falls behind

With the work only partly completed, a commuter rail line in Virginia has canceled a $2.7 million contract with Northern Rail Car Corp. after the Milwaukee firm fell behind on scheduled deliveries of passenger cars, an executive with the line said.

Northern Rail Car, warned last month the contract was in jeopardy, failed to present a satisfactory plan for finishing the job, said Pete Sklannik Jr., chief operating officer of Virginia Railway Express.
