Braves regain NL East lead
Associated Press
Wednesday, September 26, 2001
The Atlanta Braves escaped jams in the bottom of the ninth and
10th innings Tuesday night, then scored three times in the 11th to
beat the Florida Marlins, 5-2, in Miami and take a one-game lead in
the NL East.
The Braves moved ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies, who lost, 8-
1, to Cincinnati. The New York Mets beat Montreal, 2-0, and remained
four games back.
Atlanta improved to 3-6 on an 11-game trip, which concludes with
two more games against Florida.
Chipper Jones singled with one out in the 11th against Vic
Darensbourg (1-2). Brian Jordan singled off Ricky Bones, and B.J.
Surhoff singled home the tie-breaking run.
