The Atlanta Braves escaped jams in the bottom of the ninth and 10th innings Tuesday night, then scored three times in the 11th to beat the Florida Marlins, 5-2, in Miami and take a one-game lead in the NL East.

The Braves moved ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies, who lost, 8- 1, to Cincinnati. The New York Mets beat Montreal, 2-0, and remained four games back.

Atlanta improved to 3-6 on an 11-game trip, which concludes with two more games against Florida.

Chipper Jones singled with one out in the 11th against Vic Darensbourg (1-2). Brian Jordan singled off Ricky Bones, and B.J. Surhoff singled home the tie-breaking run.
