Milk vying with soda for pupils' attention

Dairy industry urging schools to add vending machines

In a battle for the taste buds of adolescents, milk is elbowing its way into the crowded field of soda pop and fruit juice.

Aside from new packaging and the popular "Got Milk?" ads, the dairy industry is trying to tempt teenagers to slurp more milk by inducing them to plunk coins in milk vending machines in their schools.

Several Wisconsin school districts already sell 16-ounce plastic bottles of milk in machines that feature large pictures of the "Got Milk?" ads that show skateboarder Tony Hawk or the Backstreet Boys sporting ...
