Wisconsinites fond of their brandy

What's with us and brandy? Wisconsin is the No. 1 spot in the
country for per capita consumption of the fiery spirit.
In 2000, 582,000 cases of domestically produced brandy were
shipped into the state. Nationwide, shipments stack up to 5 million
cases. California outshines us in total sales, but not in per capita
imbibing.
Terese Allen, a Madison-based food guru with an interest in
Wisconsin foods, has long been curious about our abiding thirst for
brandy. Terese writes for Wisconsin Trails Magazine and has authored
several cookbooks.
