Calatrava addition updates spirit of War Memorial Center

You have to feel a little sorry for Milwaukee County's War
Memorial Center.
After dominating our lakefront for more than 40 years, Eero
Saarinen's landmark has been thoroughly upstaged by Santiago
Calatrava's addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum. As the Spaniard's
sleek new bird preens in the sunlight, its older neighbor seems
almost dowdy by comparison.
Middle-aged Milwaukeeans will recall a time when the sun shone
just as brightly on the Memorial Center. In its early days, the
building drew the same kind of attention currently being showered on
the newest luminary in our landscape.
